iPhone: FAQs

iphone hosted exchange
  1. My email is a Webmail account (MSN, Gmail, Yahoo!, etc.).  Can Apptix help me sync my iPhone to that account?

Unfortunately, Apptix does not provide support for synching non-Apptix hosted Exchange accounts, such as Gmail or Yahoo!. We suggest checking the Apple Website for help regarding that topic. Apptix’s reasonably priced hosted Exchange service provides business-class communications that enables companies—and individuals—to have flexible, easy-to-use email, as well as collaboration and calendering features.
  2. Exchange servers are for large corporations, and “Mobile Me” is for individuals.  Where does Apptix fit in?

Microsoft Exchange servers are expensive to purchase and maintain in-house, while Apple “Mobile Me” provides a small subset of basic Exchange-like features for individual users. Apptix’s hosted Exchange service enables organizations of any size—whether 1 or 1,000—to utilize all the features of full-featured Microsoft Exchange, and enables true collaboration with everyone on your network without the headaches, hassles, and costs of setting up in-house Exchange servers. Apptix lets individuals reap the benefits of corporate-level email and collaboration without spending the money and resources to make it a reality.
  3. How do I connect my new iPhone to my Apptix hosted Exchange server so I can access my email, contacts, and calendars on my mobile device?

If you are an Apptix hosted Exchange 2007* subscriber:

These instructions assume that you have a new iPhone 3G (preloaded with the latest 2.0 software) or have upgrade your existing iPhone with the new 2.0 software update. From the iPhone home screen, tap Settings, then tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Tap Add Account…, and then tap Microsoft Exchange. Enter your email address and password, click Next, and your iPhone will “autodiscover” your Exchange account.  That’s it—you now have your Exchange 2007 email, calendar, and contacts available on your iPhone!

If you are not an Apptix hosted Exchange subscriber:
Email sales@apptix.com to have a sales representative contact you to set you up the right hosted Microsoft Exchange email solution for your needs. Then purchase your iPhone 3G, as well as an AT&T data plan (if you don’t already have one), and follow the simple instructions above.
  4. Will the iPhone Auto Discovery feature work if I am still using Exchange 2003?

The iPhone Auto Discovery feature is not available for Exchange 2003. If this is the case, you will need to manually enter the following ActiveSync information:
    • Server address:  mobile.collaborationhost.net <this server does require an encrypted (SSL) connection>
    • Username:  <the alias of the user (typically the primary email address)>
    • Password:  <this should be known by the user or the user's administrator>
    • Domain:  collaboration
